Gulls Attack Robin

By Andy, Wednesday, March 25, 2009

I spotted this on the MassBird forum.

A group of gulls rip apart a robin. Not for the squeamish but differently interesting bird behavior. Quoting from MassBird list.

Just as I was about to leave the park I heard gulls screaming overhead and noticed the Robin being chased by what looked like a Peregrine at first glance, the maneuvering against the tall glass building was falcon like- but it was a gull, several gulls chasing the Robin. I watched until it looked as though the Robin won the chase and moments later there was a commotion on the street. The Robin lost.

Other stuff that may be of interest although long time birders may have seen these .

How sad and bizarre. I wonder what caused the gulls to do that?

I saw this too in my Boston Birds Google Group feed! I’ve never seen gulls do this before and it’s crazy to this of this happening right in Post Office Square. I used to walk through there all the time when I worked downtown and never saw anything like this.

Just added one photo (with permission) for reference.

I was just in Post Office Square last Saturday and was on the lookout for the vicious seagull! Luckily didn’t run into him.
